Description

Privacy is possible, Signal makes it easy.

Using Signal, you can communicate instantly while avoiding SMS fees, create groups so that you can chat in real time with all your friends at once, and share media or attachments all with complete privacy. The server never has access to any of your communication and never stores any of your data.

★ Say Anything. Signal uses an advanced end to end encryption protocol that provides privacy for every message every time.

★ Open Source. Signal is Free and Open Source, enabling anyone to verify its security by auditing the code. Signal is the only private messenger that uses open source peer-reviewed cryptographic protocols to keep your messages safe.

★ Be Yourself - Signal uses your existing phone number and address book. There are no separate logins, usernames, passwords, or PINs to manage or lose.

★ Group Chat. Signal allows you to create encrypted groups so you can have private conversations with all your friends at once. Not only are the messages encrypted, but the Signal server never has access to any group metadata such as the membership list, group title, or group icon.

★ Fast. The Signal protocol is designed to operate in the most constrained environment possible. Using Signal, messages are instantly delivered to friends.

★ Speak Freely - Make crystal-clear phone calls to people who live across town, or across the ocean, with no long-distance charges.

Signal is not currently compatible with tablets, but support for larger screens is on our roadmap and will be included in a future release!

UPDATE: ***From a messaging standpoint I still love this app, but the dev(s) changed the attachment interface and it's terrible; much less flexible in ability to choose file location. The new attachment menu looks horrendous. I'm really considering abandoning this app as a result of this unnecessary and terrible change.*** This app was a revelation when I found it; simple, fast, ENCRYPTED, just customizable enough and great attachment options. This is exactly what I'm looking for in a messaging/SMS replacement app. Full Review

The app is really easy to set up and use. Beyond the security, it's just a really nice messenger app and is a great replacement for the stock app. A clean and intuitive interface equals winning! Full Review

I want to like this app but it just will not work. If I call another phone with Signal installed it will not ring and neither will mine if someone calls me although in every instance a missed call notification is received immediately afterwards. All other messaging apps work. I have contacted support by email but no response. Full Review

Signal is practical, quite intuitive, open source and doesn't bloat (yet) with stuff I don't want nor need. I just wish more people would be willing to try it, at least. Hey everyone: this thing just replaces your messaging app. You can send your SMS texts through it, and it _adds value_ by also being able to send encrypted messages like your beloved WhatsApp, but without sending your entire contacts to Facebook. Love this app. If possible I always try to use it to communicate with people. Sadly, it is not as popular as other messaging apps. Also, the PC chrome app for this is also wonderful. Feels fast and not as cluttered and chunky as Skype. It could use some improvements e.g. It does not separate history by days so it might get confusing at times. I guess the biggest feature that it needs right now is an ability to create an account without phone number, though. Full Review

Still the best encrypted messaging app. Straightforward and relatively widely adopted/known, so you can actually get your friends to use it, while being crytographically robust enough to satisfy advanced users. Stable and reliable, with tons of useful features to enhance security. Stop saying stupid stuff on clear text, idiot! message Full Review

This app is incredible. You get to keep your same phone number and encrypt everything across the app. You can set disappearing messages that aren't stored anywhere after the time disappears. You can prevent people from screen-shotting the messages. Very safe, very secure. Just make sure your recipient and you both have this application to make it as secure as possible. Full Review

Free global encrypted text messages, phone calls, and video calls. Written by trusted security experts in the open source world. Super easy to use, with better features than standard messaging apps. All encrypted. All free. Note that the metadata (identifying who calls whom) cannot be hidden, since it uses phone numbers. But the content of that communication is private. Full Review

Great secure messenger app, being open source and not owned by some megacorp and such. Also especially nice that it takes care of SMS storage as well. Still a US-based developer and thus a residual security risk. Less so than most competition, though. Full Review

I loved it! And would be happy to give it five stars, if I could only get back in. I chose to password protect it, forgot the password and there's no prompt or even anywhere to link for password support. I took the advice of signal and did the password not knowing there would be no help if I was locked out. Anyone know how to get in? Full Review

Best text messaging application so far for android. The only thing it lacks is web preview for links. it allows for encrypted comms over text and voice with other users that are part of the service as well. Implements dual SIM cards okay but it could be improved a bit. Full Review

Sometimes, notifications doesn't appear by themselves until you open the app manually. Then they show up stacked one after another. Other than that, everything works good. For security purposes & highly paranoids, way better alternative than any other app in the market. Highly recommended.

I was told to give this app a try since I wasn't receiving all of my text & mms messages from iphone users. So far, I haven't had any issues receiving messages & for that, I am truly grateful. The only thing I wish I could do is add multiple photos at the same time without having to send them one at a time. If there is a way to do that, I haven't been able to figure it out. Besides that, I really like this messenger & I'll continue to use it. So far I give it a "thumbs up".

This app is literally the worst MMS app in the entire world if the sender doesn't also use signal. Images are compressed harder than when both the sender and receiver don't use signal than when just one does. Not sure where or why this is happening. When both users use signal the quality is perfect. Great app overall since I rarely send images to non signal users. Full Review

No easy way to reply to a specific message. Screen estate wasted by blanks in discussion screen. Telegram App does both nicely. Too much permissions, see permissions of Mastalab App if you need that to understand. You can delegate, e.g., phone permission to another companion App, like Automate App does. Full Review

The app is overlapping my ring tones for text messages. It did that before but somehow corrected itself. Now it's doing it again. I'd like to ask that the developers of this app to contact me. I lost some data using this app & I'd like it restored. That would definitely be worth 5 stars. Thank you. Full Review

Have been using Signal since it's introduction on a daily basis. Now have migrated my laptop to the stand alone version, and every version of Signal installed on every phone and the laptop is glitchy, not recognizing contacts and not showing potions of conversations. Sync from mobile devices to a desktop or laptop is non-existant. Signal is now useless to me. Blech. Stop "improving" what already works!! Full Review

Good app but be careful with your media, it will build up and eat your memory because you can not delete multiple media files, you have to manually search them inside each chat. My app is over 1.3 gb and i have to delete each gif i send or recieve to keep it from getting worse. The devs have told me that they will notify me when they will implement a delete function. So far, acter several updates, still nothing. Maybe I am the only one with limited phone memory ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Full Review

For those having trouble receiving calls: settings > date and time > automatic date and time > use network provided. This solved it for me. This app is absolutely THE BEST! So good that its the only app I've reviewed in 8 years. Great quality calls and video without suffering privacy invasion. Calls are encrypted, with verifiable encryption key that's so simple. I've maybe got 100 people on signal by absolutely refusing to use Facebook and WhatsApp. Yes, fewer people use Signal, but we can change that. I think its even working on Windows, Linux and Mac without a phone number (but I have yet to try). Requests: use a username instead of phone number (in some countries you must give 2 forms of ID including passport and sign a contract to purchase a SIM card, so it does not respect the privacy of users in those countries), use firefox as well as Chrome Thank you so much Open Whisper Systems for your continued hard work.
